Excellent Service! El Portal has an outdoor dining area as well, which is nice in the warmer months. Everytime I have been to El Portal, the service has been outstanding!! And it is very clean and comfortable. The food is good, but a little pricey compared to El Vaquero. I understand they are from Guadalahara, Mexico. [27 Apr 2004 15:14:39]

Very Good Have been there many times and the service has always been fantastic. The food is consistently good with plenty of flavor and comparably priced to other Mexican restaurants in the area. [21 Oct 2004 11:48:52]

A Regular Haunt I just adore El Portal! It's quaint and usually not so busy that you can't enjoy yourself.
The service is awesome... and the food is of exceptional quality. Their meat is high grade, which is odd for most Mexican restaurants. I also recommend the cheese dip, which is white and just incredible.
They also have a patio, which is great when it's warm. Thursday is $2 margarita night, and while the glasses are smaller, they are definitely potent. I had 3, and totally felt it when I got up after dinner. laughs...
I have also ordered take out from here, and the servings, chips, and salsa are very generous and hot.. as well as ready on time (usually in 10 minutes).
The only thing I don't recommend is the flan. I've had better.
All in all, El Portal is a great experience! [19 Mar 2005 23:01:36]

Regular visitor This is my wife's favorite Mexican restraunt. It seems to me, personally, that things are a bit more Tex-Mex. However, the food is always good, and the service is excellent. My wife's favorite thing to order is the shrimp Quesadilla; the cheese is excellent, the shrimp cooked exactly right. I try something different each time. I've enjoyed the huevo rancheros, several of the steak dishes, etc. They seat probably 50-100 counting seats at the bar, etc. but not counting the outside seating. [02 May 2005 12:13:38]

amazing fajita nachos I tried this for the first time and I loved the fajita nachos. The hot salsa was wonderful too. I was looking for a mexican restuarant to replace my favorite one in Maryland. This one far surpassed my expectations! I will be back! My kids really enjoyed the grilled cheese kids meal. It says that kids eat free on Mondays off the kids meal. I think we will be going back on Monday! [12 Aug 2006 13:56:38]
