Old Bag of Nails PubEven the sign outside reminds you of a quaint Irish village pub. Patrons rave about the beer-battered fish&chips and the beer-battered pickles which are the house specialty. Many specialty imports and microbrewed beers to choose from on tap. Menu choices include wings, burgers, steaks and the Irish favorite of Corned Beef and hash. Offers many appetizer choices and a full menu. Open Daily 11AM - 1AM, Kitchen closes at 10PM. Parking can be a problem in this part of Worthington and due to popularity expect some wait time for a table in the evenings (especially the weekend). The decor includes many old Irish and British artifacts. From there, you drop the shot into the glass and commence drinking, quickly. The normally delicious Guinness takes on the flavor of chocolate with a fine finish, indeed. A relatively small place. The bar is the centerpiece of the joint. There are a few 'regulars' at the end of the bar. At 4:00pm, it is dark as night. A good place to lose yourself. I love this place. It's a Duracell bar...coppertop. Plus they had my all-time favorite beer on tap (GLBC Burning River Pale Ale) so I could keep going, and going, and going...(oops, wrong slogan) They have a classic beer can collection along the back wall which evokes memories of yore when my brothers had their extensive collection...... - suggest change The Scene - CitySearch, James Ellison; ....A rarity on this side of the pond: excellent fish and chips, true Scotch whisky and a great pub atmosphere..................Named after the London pub where Paul McCartney met first wife Linda Eastman, each Old Bag is decorated with beer-can collections, bric-a-brac and other pub paraphernalia. The Worthington location is a bit darker and hole-in-the-wall cozy, while the Grandview space is larger and good for groups and kids. ....... - suggest change Show 10 | 20 | 30 | 50 reviews on each page Awesome food! BEST RESTAURANT EVER Great little pub for food or beer Great Bartender and Hostess Have become a This is gonna be long and critical: Avoid this dump unless you're already 2 sheets to the wind when you enter. Hosts and hostesses are rude and apparently English is not their first language nor did they study it in school. You'll never guess who your server is - at least 3 people will stop if you hail them down and say they will give your order to your server. Then prepare to wait 1/2 to 1 hour to eat twice-fried food or soggy sandwiches. That's after waiting for a table because we all look alike to them. Don't bother to make a reservation - they'll screw it up anyway.Last Saturday our Red Hatters group went to Franklin Park Conservatory to see the Amazing Chocolate Tree which may be touring presently. Neither my daughter or I eat chocolate and she had to work so we joined the ladies for lunch. No fun! The last time I was in that Old Bag of Nails it was called BJ Young and owned by a friend and his son. The occasion was the wake for the father. Imagine! a wake being fun...chance to see lots of old friends and relatives of friends. Restaurant/bar had a lot more charm back then - they made up an imaginary person BJ Young and printed all sorts of "facts" about him on the menu plus the owners' cousin-in-law/aunt was the cook with unusual comfort food on the menu. Menu now is quite pedestrian. Old Bag of Nails recently backed an initiative on the ballot in Westerville, the birthplace of the WCTU, and dry for eons. Locals were up in arms when the issue passed with flying colors. Alcohol will bring in business but, alas, the food won't. Plus there was a mixup on the reservations with about 4 Red Hat groups coming in and they thought it was only 1. Hopefully there won't be red hats there again. This restaurant/bar was previously known as Muddy Creek because it's on the banks of Alum Creek but I remember it longest as the Broad Nel (close to corner of Broad St and Nelson Rd), which was on my tee-totaller mother's list of no-no places and she went ballistic when I was a teenager and my friend's older brother took a group of us girls there for Cokes after a basketball game. I guess he's finally forgotten the reaming she gave him - he died a few years ago [29 Jan 2006 18:59:44] Pickels!
