Thrown Rolls in Ardmore Cattle Rustler's in Ardmore is always one of the high points of any vacations to Colorado because we always stop in on the way out or the way in. I'm surprised no one else has written a review of this one. For flame grilled steaks or pit style Bar B Q there are few equals. Homemade yeast rolls thrown by server and caught(or not)by you keep coming about every 5 minutes from the kitchen. I was always realy impressed by one thing here, they keep the roles cooking as long as they have a customer in the house. My family has been at Cattle Rustler's at 10 minutes til closing and walked in and had as good a meal as we would have if it were the middle of the afternoon. I always hated to go to one of those places a bit late and then be rushed through my meal. We have been going to Cattle Rustlers since the late 70's and I can't remember a bad thing. Same good things are, the salad bar; it's the largest I've ever seen and everything is fresh on it. They even hand cut their lettuce real fine the way I like it. Other recomendation are; sweet hot pickles on the SB(they are the most crisp I've ever had), and smoked bologna also SB. Be sure to eat as many rolls with butter and honey as you can. Was Good---Before My wife and I made the mistake of going this last Sunday. Don't know what was going on but it was a lousy experience. Based on previous experiences, we expected a good meal. The service was practically non-existant---waited 10 minutes to be seated with no one in front of us, no one leaving, and numerous empty tables. Flatware had large bits of food dried on it, angered the waitress when I asked for some clean. No rolls available the entire time we were there. We were there for approximately 50 minutes, and was told several times that rolls would be out "in a minute or so". I don't know what type of seasoning was placed on the steaks, but both my wife and I were unable to eat more than 1 bite. The topper, when the greeter/cashier/couldn't tear himself away from the T.V. employee asked about the meal and was informed of the problems, his concerned reply - a shrug of his shoulders. Thanks. Not what I expected. My wife and I had dinner with her brother-in-law last evening, 5-2-07. I had heard a few good things about Cattle Rustlers, read the two previous reviews, one being good and the latter being bad. Our experience was terrible. The service was the best part of the whole experience, and it was below standards. The ribeye that was ordered had an odd taste and smell, so did the sirloins, but not as bad. When confronted about the smell and taste, the waiter after talking to the manager, offered another cut of meat, with the explanation that they had been having problems with those specific cuts. (What I read into the situation is, They serve this rancid meat and if it is served to someone that notices the smell and taste, then they will substitute another cut.) The "Thrown Rolls" I had heard so much about, were about 40 minutes too late. I had to ask the waiter for the rolls that we did get, and as we were ready to leave, the guy appears to toss rolls around the room. All in all, The 1 1/2 hour drive from Van Alstyne and the 1 1/2 hour drive from Oklahoma City for us to meet in the middle would have been a great experience, had we chosen another restaurant. Please attempt to fix these problems, this place does have potential. Nothing beats a Great American Steakhouse. [03 May 2007 08:43:35]
