Description
El Sarape offers authentic Mexican cuisine (no Southwest or Tex-Mex). Their dishes are created from family recipes and are prepared fresh.
The atmosphere is casual, yet elegant with all the colors of Mexico. The menu has a glossary of Spanish terms translated to English so you can better understand the cuisine. They also offer off-site catering for parties and special events.
This restaurant also shares ownership with Los Sarapes in Chalfont.

Upscale Mexican Dining I was looking for a cheap take-out lunch, so El Sarape was a surprise. This is fine dining, complete with a bar. Happily, it's a smoke-free place. I only had the tacos, but they were fragrant with cilantro and had a wonderful blend of flavors. I picked out something spicy, also avocado.
Service (remember, this was take-out) was very welcoming, from their wide smiles to my host's taking the time to explain what the restaurant is all about.
It's pricey, not what I'd pick for just grabbing lunch, but I'll go back one day when I want a special lunch or dinner treat. [14 Sep 2003 00:59:59]

Authentic Friendly Good Food Ive been meaning to stop in for the longest time at this place. It is small, crowded, loud but thankfully smoke-free. The service could not have been friendlier-from the first "Buenas Noches" to the friendly good byes. The food is authentic Mexican not the run of the mill Tex-Mex and was very good. The hot hot Habanero sauce is great, but go easy on it! The margarita were large, strong and very good. The overall atmosphere is wonderful with friendly chatter and a mix of locals and Mexican immigrants. The only drawback is it is kind of pricy and I will make this an occasional/special event time place. All in all I loved it! [31 Mar 2004 13:04:14]

Too expensive, too spicy, too slow Having long endured without Mexican food since moving to Philadelphia from New York, I was looking forward to my meal at El Sarape. The decor is very chic and all, but I prefer my NYC Mexican joints anyday over El Sarape.
Why? The food is tremendously overpriced, it is excessively spicy, the portions are small (about 2 spoons worth of rice) and it took 45 minutes on a Wednesday night to get my dinner. There was no balance to the food whatsoever. Everything was completely drowning in spice.
You'd be better off going to the not-so-fancy home cooking Mexican places, where you get triple the food for about $8.00. [20 Aug 2004 10:11:47]

EXPENSIVE!!! Average price for 2 people with a drink each is about $80. Come on now. That's just ridiculous. Food is good, but not worth the high price. [19 Nov 2005 11:33:55]
