Can't wait to go back I have eaten in many restaurants in my 69 years and I must say I enjoyed this spot best of all. I am not from this area, but will make sure I revisit the next time I'm in Newtown. The service was superior. [23 Jul 2003 18:41:42]

Food decent service awful The food was fine, if uninspired. Basically a more pretentious Buca Di Beppo. However, the service was simply awful. If you're not planning to spend massive amounts on liquor or have a party of 8 or more, expect to be ignored at best and, more likely, snarked at by the Euro-scum waitstaff. [11 Dec 2003 19:05:59]

New owner quality down My father and I had a meal today for lunch at La Stalla. The food was definitely not as good as it once was. The appetizer La Stalla Toscano with all the vegetables and a cut from the wheel of cheese used to be great Emilio Reggiano Parmesan. Now the cheese is for grating and very hard Locatelli - although good for grating, it is not good for eating in whole chunks. I also wanted to take part of my lunch home – it was never returned in a take out bag.
My father also was given stale bread a short time ago.
This leads me to believe that the new owners who purchased La Stalla for two million dollars are cutting costs with their food. I will not return to La Stalla. Sorry! [11 Jun 2004 14:28:13]

Good Choice for a Group I think La Stalla is best experienced with a group of at least four people. All of the dishes are served family style (read: huge portions) and there are so many yummy options it is hard to choose just one! The tilapia is excellent, and you can't go wrong with the shrimp dishes. The traditional Italian dishes are also wonderful. The only complaint I have is the limited wine-by-the-glass selection. However, if you are with a group you can share bottles. Overall, the food is scrumptious, the service in my experience is attentive and the ambiance is pleasant. [14 Mar 2005 20:37:17]

Wonderful atmosphere Have visited La Stalla at least 4 times over the past few years and always feel the same about the food. I absolutely love the atmosphere because it is most enjoyable to sit outside on the porch in good weather. There is also an outside bar and bocci ball court during warm months. On some occasions, there was live music which was enjoyable. In cold months, I even very much enjoy the inside since it is a converted barn. Overall, I think the food is acceptable but only average and not anything special. [07 Sep 2005 14:46:08]

Hurry up eat get out Disappointing.
It was obvious our waitress, Amy, and the rest of the staff wanted to go home at 8:30 PM on a Tuesday evening. We had all of two minutes with the sizable menu before Amy was upon us asking if we were ready to order.
We ordered. Tomatoes and mozzarella came very quick as though it was prepared and waiting in a refrigerator for the next person to order it.
Our main entrees were good.
From that point, Amy made it known she was in a bit of a hurry. Asked if we wanted coffee. Did not ask if we were interested in dessert. I had to ask for a dessert list.
After dessert was delivered, Amy left the bill with us and told us that she would take the payment and we could stay around and finish our coffees. Gee, thanks.
Soon as the bill was paid, Amy was gone.
The kitchen help decided to sit in the dining room at the table behind us as we were having coffee and conversation. They were yelling across the restaurant to each other. The last straw was a person I would believe is the owner/manager who yelled to us that he was locking up. 10 PM and we are drinking our coffees and we are being rushed out by the manager.
Never again at this place. [01 Mar 2006 14:42:37]

LA STALL LA STINKS
A Real Disappointment We went there with clients and were not impressed with the waiter and the food. We live in Las Vegas part of the year and this place would last one minute in Las Vegas. Totally uninspiring food and the service was poor. The wait staff needs to be trained better. [13 Jun 2006 17:29:22]

Enjoyable I've been frequenting La Stalla for roughly a year now, and have yet have any kind of bad experience. I enjoy the food immensely, I highly suggest the mozzarella en coroza to start, and the penne ala vodka makes an outstanding entree for two. [30 Nov 2006 18:27:53]

Snobby Meal The food is fine. Most of what I have had at La Stalla I have enjoyed. But the atmosphere and the staff steal any joy one might have from eating their food.
There is a sense that if you are known by the staff or management you are "in." If not you are 'in the way.' The staff has never been friendly or pleasant. The place is loud and crowded.
There are better places in Newtown that are pleased to have your business. [01 Dec 2006 17:11:59]

The tragedy that is La Stalla It pains me to see what was once such a great restaurant turn to what it now is.
Before La Stalla's new management, it was a favorite of my wife and me. However, new management has flat out destroyed the place.
The new owner, a pompous and pretentious-type is slowly driving the place into the ground.
Last weekend, my wife and some friends of ours attempted to dine at La Stalla. I called in reservations for 8, and we arrived 5 minutes late. After telling the hostess my name, we stood there for 25 minutes. I could have sworn the point of reservations were in ensure this kind of thing did not happen.
I loved La Stalla, but after this, I'll never eat there again.
Way to go new guy. [02 Feb 2007 16:36:44]
