Best Filet Mignon EVER
I grew up near Hill City, SD my whole life and the Alpine Inn has the best filet mignon in the world. It is the only thing on the menu - you get a choice between a small and a large - it comes with a 1/4 head of lettuce with home made ranch style dressing. After you stuff your self on the steak, there is a wonderful assortment of desserts. I recommend the bread pudding :) You know they have delicious food because in the summertime there is about a 1-2 hour wait for dinner. I recommend getting there early (around 5, right when the open). This is definitely a small town restaurant--don't expect fine dining--but it will give you a true feel of South Dakota at it's finest.    [27 Jun 2002 09:23:37]

Hubby and I stopped at the Alpine Inn for lunch and it was wonderful! Best of all was the Bread Pudding! HEAVENLY! Would love the recipe! It's all we've talked about since getting home from vacation!    [01 Jul 2003 19:32:00]

not a bad value, but not a real Filet Mignon
Well, it was ok.
the 1/4 head of lettuce is kinda dumb. it is light green lettice head cut in to 4ths. no nutritional value, no tomotos, nothing but some ranch dressing.
The steak was decent, what do you want for $7.95 with some lettuce, a baked potato, and a piece of plain white toast. well, maybe a vegetable and maybe a baked potato that is a little larger than a new potato.
the toast had no garlic or anything, just white bread.
That steak was ok, but NOT a Filet Mignon. They call it a Filet, they do not mention anything about Mignon.
still not a bad deal, but nothing amazing either.
We had wine and a desert that were both good, good value.    [01 Jun 2006 16:35:52]

Brilliant marketing idea and outstanding food, bread pooding is to die for!!!
It's been over eight years since I've lived in the Rapid City area and been to the Alpine Inn and I can't wait until the day I can get there again. The entire experience is just amazing and the bread pudding is worth traveling thousands of miles for. My advice to anyone wanting an elaborate menu, go to Cheesecake factory and leave me waiting in line with the rest of the appreciative folks. The menu, or lack thereof, is all part of the amazing experience.    [13 Jul 2006 07:57:45]
