Take my wife! We stayed in Medina Tx. for 6 weeks in 1999? On numerous occasions we visited the Fool Moon.( I felt like a fool when I tried to pick up the glued down quarter on the front step) I asked for the recipe for the great French Toast. You said if you told me, you'd have to kill me. I don't know why I didn't think of this then. Take my wife! THANKS, you and your food were great! [30 Mar 2002 08:50:46]

Chic Dining in a Cowboy Town Too often the culinary fare offered by small Texas towns is limited to the local Dairy Queen. In Bandera, however, that is not the case. The Fool Moon is a great place to eat. The food is fresh and reasonably priced. [02 Jul 2002 15:49:39]

I LOVED this place! The atmosphere, the service, the FOOD was ALL wonderful! I can't speak highly enough. My husband and I went for lunch on July 4th. The young men running the place did such a great job, I was impressed. My husband asked for a slice of pie after our meal.. the fellow who waited on us walked out to the front "garden" and picked a mint leaf as garnish. I just thought it was a nice added touch. The pie was to die for! Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious! [05 Jul 2003 20:51:46]

My Favorite Restaurant I've been going to Fool Moon for over 6 years now and have never been disappointed. The brother/sister team are so fun and I never hesitate trying anything they offer. Friday night BYOB dinners are great and the atmosphere is just what I was craving in a small town. [30 Sep 2004 10:17:05]

DON'T GET FOOLED! I have been going to the Fool Moon for 5 years and have always been blown away by what the chef/owner Jason Boyd has done, however, he has since sold the place and the quality is now horrible. I found out that he opened a new place in town. [28 Nov 2005 01:13:21]

We were not fooled... We went to the Fool Moon for the first a couple of months ago...under its new owner. The atmosphere, food, service, and wine selection (very limited) were quite good and light years ahead of anything else Bandera has to offer. The latter statement based on 14 years of eating in Bandera w/o once "dining". Fool Moon was our first "dining" experience in Bandera. We recommend it. We will go back. And I must disagree completely with the "Don't Get Fooled" review. [09 Jun 2006 09:18:49]

Think: Comely Girl With Nose Warts The interesting old building is intriguing even as you are parking the car. Inside it's a relaxing, eclectic, softly lit mix that makes you think Austin-cool. Service is very friendly but it's immediately apparent that it's inexperienced. Then the trouble begins. No wine list is offered and you can't get one unless you can corner the cutesy owner. He's the only wine list. He acts like he knows what he has in the cellar and pretends to be a sommelier savant but I caught him reading the back of the bottle. He seems to lean toward blended wines. He's really flippant about prices. Whites are "oh, $18 to $37" I order one of the owner's recommendations and probably wind up with a $37 bottle. Who knows however since you don't get an itemized bill at the end?
The salads were bitter.
Then there are long periods of downtime. We're out of wine. The wine list is busy being clever elsewhere. No appetizers are offered. Finally a bread basket comes with exactly one Churches famous biscuit counted out for everybody along with individually wrapped pats of butter. How generous and elegant! Then more downtime.
Entrees are all $30.00 and bland and slathered in "thick-sauce". I expect a tasty, tender piece of meat for that price. I get a tender pice of meat alright but it is absolutely flavorless as is the thick-sauce it's under. Adolphs meat tenderizer anyone?
Fish or chicken? Whatever. Chop it up and hide it in the murky depths of thick-sauce. It goes farther that way.
The presentation is 100% haphazard.
No deserts were offered. When I asked about them it was obvious that the waitstaff just wanted us to leave so they could go home. I was insistent and we scored some mediocre sweets. Were they worth the price? No telling if you don't know how much you paid.
If this place was not so pricey and the potential for a fine restaurant in such a beautiful part of the hill country so great I would not be so critical. I'd even go back often.
Judging by the lack of business on a Friday night some other people share my criticisims.
And even if one day I match Ken Lay's success, I'll still want to know how much the wine cost. [10 Jul 2006 00:16:44]

Fool Moon=Amazing? I think so. This place is amazing!! The service may be slow at times but its totally worth the wait. I love their daily flavored teas and home-made soups. Chicken and wild rice-delicious! Their desserts are amazing, I dont have a favorite. Well yes I do-DP Cake!! Home-made by the owners mother! The food is amazing, the atmosphere is great-very welcoming. I highly recommend this restaurant! I live in Houston and when I go to Bandera to visit family, I always have to go to the Fool Moon. I crave their pasta salad and chicken pesto. [13 Oct 2006 10:57:08]

Pleasant Surprise Although we have been traveling to Texas Hill Country for the past three years, we didn't find Fool Moon until Saturday, March 17, 2007. Unfortunately we weren't offered a wine list although we did notice others having wine. The service was very slow but well worth the wait, the Buttermilk Chicken Salad and Lentil Salad was superb. My husband enjoyed the Ahi Tuna on Spinach Salad but no mushrooms that day unfortunately. When I mentioned to the waitress there was no toilet paper in the restroom she didn't seem concerned nor did she apologize. Although I would LOVE to have your recipes for the lentil salad, chx. salad and the hot bacon dressing I'm sure the answer would be the same as the gentleman that asked for your french toast recipe:) We'll definately stop on our next visit to Bandera.
