Description
Baxters is located in what was originally a tailor shop built in 1890. The facility features brick walls lining a long, open dining room with two-story ceilings and an ambiance hinting at the 1920's. The menu includes, blackened salmon, aged rib eye steaks, and praline-encrusted creme brulée.

It's Taken A Nose Dive. While the service was great. The food was lack-luster and did not match the menu's descriptions.
Plain white rice is not pilaf. Rare tuna shouldn't be cold. The green beans were almost raw.
The fresh made potato-chips while a nice touch were a very small order. The chicken fingers were acceptable but nothing to brag about. The calimari tasted like pork rinds. The menu touted saffron potatoes, they were serving garlic mashed potatoes, which were probably the best thing we got. The catfish would have been good had the pieces not been slivers which the very nice batter totally overwhelmed.
But our server was a wonderful charming woman. They tolerated our kids well (we had 4 with us). No problems with the service and staff. Just the cooking and the menu situation. [12 Aug 2005 21:21:05]

Bastrop's Best Baxters on Main has the touch of class that is expected in large cities with the small town attitude that provides the finest dining experience in Bastrop. Every detail of the food, atmosphere and staff is managed to the finest detail.
Every dish that I have had the pleasure of eating has left my taste buds craving for more. Baxters provides an affordable lunch menu that will have you craving seconds due to the flavor, not the portion size. The dinner menu will please the hardest critics.
My only complaint is they are not open 24 hours a day / seven days a week. Is that really a complaint? You cannot get this kind of service & food at IHOP or 7-11.
By far, Baxters provides the best dining experience in Bastrop. [06 Feb 2006 21:52:01]
