Go out of your way to eat at Schoepf's
From the time you pull up in front of the restaurant you'll know you've come to the right place. The smell alone is worth the trip, and the food exceeds the anticipation. The staff is friendly, and the barbecue is good enough that we bought dry ice on our last trip to Texas so that we could bring back some real barbecue from Schoepf's. Eveything they cook is excellent, but the pork chops are especially sublime! When you walk in the door and face the pit with its dazzling array of choices, rest assured that you can't go wrong. Bring your appetite! You won't be disappointed.    [27 Nov 2001 22:29:10]

Best Bar-B-Que in Texas
I didn't think I'd ever find decent Bar-B-Que in Texas until I was introduced to Schoepf's when my husbands boss took us out to lunch. They have the best all around Bar-B-Que. Besides the wonderful variety of meats I recommend the Cole Slaw, Potatoe Salad and Peach Cobbler.

If you get a chance to visit a Schoepf's location and want to experience the best atmosphere you need to go to the Belton location. The Killeen location is fairly new and the service is not as good as the service in Belton.

ENJOY!!!    [24 May 2002 16:04:55]

Best sauce in Texas or anywhere else.
Most barbecue sauces have turned into barbecue-flavored ketchup. Schoepf's has the old-fashioned thin sauce, very flavorful with course ground black pepper. The best I've ever had and a perfect complement to smoked meats. I also particularly like the chicken. If you're lucky enough to get it right off the grill, you won't forget it.    [01 Jan 2003 16:01:23]

Best Bar-B-Que in these United States
I have been all over the United States and parts of Canada and Mexico and Schoepf's Olde Tyme Pit Bar-B-Que is the absolute best BBQ you will ever have the pleasure to consume. It doesn't matter if you are from the country, the big city, or somewhere in between, The Schoepf family has created magic with their Mequite wood smoked meats, their authentic homemade BBQ sauce, and the other home made fare that will assuredly compliment your dining experience. If you find yourself within a four hour radius of Belton Texas I would recommend that you take the time and effort to visit this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.    [26 Nov 2003 17:13:40]

Great BBQ around!
Schoepf's is a very down to earth place. Everything is cooked just right with a great friendly staff. I have had the experience of both pits (Killeen and Belton) and I love both of them. I was first introduced to the BBQ when my husband was working for the pit in Killeen. It was love at first taste. I would recommend Schoepf's to any tourist, to any passerbyers, and to everyone! The experience of Scoepf's will not soon be forgotten.    [24 May 2004 17:42:07]

A great place to eat
I was born and reared in Bell County but have been living in the Wash DC and Eastern Shore of Maryland since 1971. I still get by Schoepfs whenever I am in Belton. their barbecue is great.    [22 May 2006 14:02:48]

Love that 'cue
One of the few joys of living in Belton is getting to Schoepf's frequently. Their ribs are magnificent, and anyone who doesn't like their chicken just doesn't have taste buds. It gets crowded at lunch time, so take-out to a nearby park is a good idea. Their sauce is a little on the vinegary side, but shoot, when the meat tastes that good, who needs sauce?    [14 Aug 2006 17:37:06]

Pork Chops from hogzilla
I relocated from the Pacific Northwest and though I knew what BBQ should taste like. Well I was completely wrong. Schoef's has the best Pork Chops around; their ribs are tender and tasty. The jalapeno corn bread is to die for (I always get two pieces). Come hungry, everything here is outstanding.    [25 Jul 2007 22:26:24]

Worst BBQ ever
We ate at Schoepfs BBQ in Belton last week for the first time. What a disappointment. It was the absolute worst bbq I have ever been to. The Brisket was tough, chewy, dry and stringy. Worst of all it was cut into chunks and seemed as if it were baked and not smoked. The ribs were pretty tough as well. Needless to say, we wont be back for a second time.    [16 Sep 2007 00:08:58]

Worth the drive from Ft. Worth.
We stopped at Schoepf's after visiting the Bell County Museum. Schoepf's has absolutely the best brisket I've ever eaten. However, the culinary delight didn't stop there. The smoked venison, mounds of home made potato salad, pinto beans, and country corn bread were awesome as well. Saw the awards on the wall, but they don't tell the whole story. This place has charm and character. We will be back (driving from Fort Worth) many times in the future. Highly recommend. Note: No knife required for the brisket.    [09 Feb 2008 22:21:03]
