BARBQUE WITH ALL THE TRIMMINGS.. A great eating experience for those that can't get enought of perfectly prepared barbeque meats, ribs, beef, pork, sausage all seasoned and cooked to the height of goodness. You will love the servers bringing you heaps of barbequie, beans, potato salad, onions rings and Texas Toast that accompany most dinner selections. You will love every bite, if you can manage to finish the more than amply filled plates. Great ice tea and coffee as well. Don't forget on Friday is all the delicous catfish you can eat with the same great sides that go with the barbeque plates. Sutphens is a great Borger tradition of going out to eat. Great Texas Barbeque Old Sutphen's brings back the days when Sutphen's was the best place to eat in Borger. Joe and Margie Sutphens opened Sutphens restaurant in nearby Phillips, Tx way back in the 1940's. They eventually moved it to Borger, and they worked there until the 1980's. When they passed away, Sutphens continued for a while, but eventually closed their doors in the late 1990's. When the new owners decided to re-open Sutphen's, they were smart to get the old recipes. The pork barbeque is unbelieveable. I don't think I've ever tasted onion rings better. And Effie's cole slaw recipe is still the best. Don't miss this wonderful place, and save plenty of room for that family-style barbeque dinner. [09 Dec 2006 18:50:12]

I remember walking into my first Sutphens BBq back in the early 80's, not to eat but to see my mother she happen to be the dishwasher. Oh the smell of bbq was heavenly. Soon after that I had a job as waitress. Loved working for Scott Sutphen in Amarillo for many many years.Even to this day I have eaten many bbq dishes still there is not a one of them that taste a good as Sutphen's bbq. Awesome! Great BBQ, great catfish, great service, and unbeatable onion rings! My travel companion and I stopped by Sutphens in Borger at the suggestion of a friend. I for one will definitely be back, even though it's slightly out of the way in my normal travels through the Texas panhandle. A must-stop if you're ever in that area. [11 Nov 2007 18:23:35]
