Best Pressure Cooked BBQ in Tx We grew up on Underwoods and now with Brownwood the last it is our meeting spot. Today, New Years Eve, will be lunch for 16, from San Angelo, Colorado, Dallas, Oklahoma, and Austin. I always take dinner home to the neighbors. [31 Dec 2003 09:42:32]

Good Food I'm 50 now. When I was a kid - a long time ago - I went fishing, garage sale-ing, and flea marketing with my grandparents all of the time. We always stopped at Underwoods. Good selection of meat and veggies, and the best pies ever created. Do not bypass an Underwoods cafeteria. [13 Mar 2004 20:08:38]

Still the Best - Anywhere We get to go to Brownwood about once a year to take kids to camp there. We time our trips so that we can eat at least one meal at Underwood's. We just ate there today (June 12, 2004) and it is still as wonderful as it was years ago. Somebody please talk them into opening another one closer to Dallas! Why did all of the others close? The Best of the Best BBQ. When I was a young girl in Altus, Oklahoma. I can remember us standing in line just to have the beef and chicken. I went to Waco and ate there. I will now drive from Fort Worth to Brownwood. Please let Underwoods live on. Great food! [17 Jun 2004 15:27:26]

Underwoods Cafeteria Underwoods is the best of any kind of food, not just BBQ. The best fried okra, the best rolls and certainly the best cobbler (all flavors). Blueberry is my favorite. I was so excited the day Underwoods opened in Waco. Only a 2 hour drive from Dallas instead of a 3.5 hr drive to Brownwood. We were able to feast at least once a month. Then the day came when they closed the doors. Now we are back to driving to Brownwood about twice a year. [03 Jul 2004 09:55:45]

The Worlds Best B-B-Q I grew up in the 1950's & 1960's with Underwoods In the Lawton, Ok. area and when they closed in the 80's I thought the end of great B-B-Q was over. I moved to Dallas and a friend told me of a great B-B-Q in Waco and I had to know the name and he said Underwoods. I thought "Could it be?" So I made a special trip and sure enough it was the same wonderful B-B-Q that I remember as a child. I was upset when the Waco location closed. Thank God for the Brownwood location. I go to Brownwood 2-3 times a year and always take a cooler and bring back several pounds of B-B-Q and about a gallon of sauce as it will store in the freeze a good long time.
I knew some of the Underwood boys from Wichita Falls, TX and Elgin, OK area but lost track of them over the years. I sure wish there were Underwoods Cafes all over like in the 60's and 70's. If you are ever in the Brownwood area and want to try some of the best B-B-Q in the world stop in. You will not be sorry, and don't forget to take a cooler so you can take some home with you as well.
P.S. If they ever plan to close this last location please let me have the secret on how to make the wonderful B-B-Q [05 Jul 2004 21:43:33]

Underwoods Barbeque We used to enjoy Underwoods Barbeque when there was a restaurant in Wichita Falls back in the 1970's. The other day, we drove down to Brownwood to eat at the last Underwoods. The food is as good as it was thirty years ago - especially the barbeque beef and sauce. It is such a shame that this one is the only Underwoods left. [01 Aug 2004 23:43:45]

Best Barbeque in the United States I was born and raised in Brownwood. My family ate at Underwoods at least once a week. My husband, who is not even from Texas, thought it was the best barbeque he ever had. I moved out of town 24 years ago. I live in New Hampshire now. Oh, how I miss that food. I don't get home very often, so it would be awesome to go online and order their food. Sorry to hear the one in Waco closed. [12 Sep 2004 11:29:15]

Former Texan Misses Real BBQ I grew up in Brownwood and we always ate at Underwoods! I live in Georgia now and have yet to find any BBQ as good as Underwoods! Cobbler, rolls, potato salad and those ribs, chicken and steak, I miss it all! I can remember Leonard or one of the waitreeses bringing out those fresh rolls. If I could have it sent to me in Dalton I would. [13 Mar 2005 09:56:31]

Best All Around There's a lot of good BBQ in Texas but nobody puts the whole thing together as well as Underwoods. The meats are fantastic and the sides are incredible. What? I can get as many sides as I want and they're all included in the low price of the entree? And that amazing cobbler? That's included, too? I guess I'll have to pay for my drink, though? No? It's all included for $8 or whatever? No better deal anywhere in Texas. And of course, you don't want to eat BBQ from anywhere else.
Underwoods is the best! [22 Mar 2005 18:15:15]
