This place is AWFUL We live in Roanoke, and this was our 2nd visit. The first visit was over a year ago, and it was bad. But we thought we'd give it another shot, since it's the only Mexican family restaurant in town. Mistake! We got seated quickly, but service was very slow. It took 20 minutes just to get our appetizer...queso. And I had to ask the waiter about it during that time! Even after I asked the waiter where our queso was, it still took between 5-10 minutes to get it. Our waiter was too busy chatting and attempting to be funny with other customers to get us refills on our sodas. Again, we had to ask for them. It took a good 40 minutes for us to receive our meal. We were close to getting up and leaving, but we knew it would take awhile to get the waiter to bring us our check. The chips are too spicy for children. The salsa is awful. My sour cream chicken enchiladas were awful. My daughter's chicken tacos were too spicy for her to eat. The tomato products used here (in salsa, chicken enchiladas, etc.) are way too "tangy." The refried beans were very dry and there was nothing special about the taste. [31 Aug 2006 12:00:03]

Roanoke People Think Babe's is Heaven, So Go Figure We frequent Don Mateo's often. It is a nice place and a cool atmosphere. The staff is friendly, although they can be slow, to be sure. The food is very good. The chips have flavor--some apparently prefer bland. They are DEFINITELY not spicy, unless you're from NYC. I would not rank it at the top of my list of Mexican joints, but it would be in the top 1/3. [11 Dec 2006 20:11:03]

Terrible I took my family to DM yesterday. We were very disappointed. The food was bland and boring. I will never eat there again. It's like Mexican food for old folks. I am Mexican myself and I don't think I have had Mexican food this bad in Texas. Beans and rice were dry. Make the trip to Ft Worth for better choices. [21 Apr 2007 10:19:06]
