Eating That Is This Side of Heaven We went out touring in our Motorhome visiting Corpus and then onto Aransas Pass and Rockport when we came upon this fantastic restaurant, the Big Fisherman! We noticed quite a few restaurants along the drive did not really have a lot of customers, especially for a Sunday lunch. We know why, they were all at this place.
The food and portions are outstanding. The service is wonderful and all of the waitstaff are friendly, quick, attentive, and appreciative. The building is very pleasant, very dark which helps after you have been out in the Sun for hours, and very cool - the air conditioning works.
I walked around the restaurant, looked at what others were eating, spoke to many "old timers" and repeat customers. This is the place to eat at and visit, it is a destination eatery.
Great portions: I had the catch of the day which was Red Snapper and plenty of it - broiled, blackened, or grilled; ten large shrimp, coleslaw, rolls, large baked potato, and soup. The soda or tea was from a bottomless well and dessert was only 95 cents. What a deal! But there is more, I had a dozen oysters and they were very large! Six equal the dozen I have been served at other places.
This is a "Ya just gotta go there to believe it" place. Plus the drive from San Antonio down Route 181 is just a wonderful, pleasing experience, not like the IH-37 drag strip.
Spend the night, you will love Rockport and the sailboats, fishing boats, wonderful coastline, and great shops.
Enjoy yourself, take sometime off for yourself, go eat at this place! [29 Apr 2002 12:53:15]

I'll Be Back Stopped there with a senior group from Austin. I would go back to Rockport for this restaurant if there were nothing else there. [26 Sep 2003 19:29:29]

The Virginian's Review My in-laws from San Antonio took us down to Rockport in their motor home, after a flight from Richmond. I am partial to the great seafood in "Down-East" North Carolina, but after eating at The Big Fisherman, I tell my neighbors and friends that they have never eaten seafood until they travel to Rockport, Texas. As incomparable as the seafood, their coleslaw is indescribably delicious. I don't care how much it will cost me to get back to The Big Fisherman, I will be back. [26 Jan 2004 00:09:07]

A Must I have known the owners for about 8 years but even if they were not the great people they are I would still strongly recommend this establishment to everyone!
They have seating for approx. 500 yet are always busy...kinda speaks for itself. Big, beautiful, great atmosphere, unbeatable food (not to mention the plates are heaping). Everyone from the owners to the bussers are great.
A true reflection of quality and I am proud to be close enough to them to eat there regularly! [09 May 2004 11:48:09]

Good Food and Inexpensive. What More Can You Ask for? If you love gizzards and chicken livers, you have to try them at the Big Fisherman!
$4 bucks all you can eat. They have great lunch specials and yummy drinks. Try their margaritas and pina coladas. Don't forget to leave some for the cats. [13 Jul 2004 15:47:55]

Best Place in Town Every time we stay in Port Aransas, we make the ferry trip over to the Big Fisherman. It has to be the best seafood restaurant at the coast. We have tried all the eateries on the island and in Corpus Christi and nothing has come close. [30 Jun 2005 14:09:21]
