Steaks, BBQ, and GREAT MUSIC! So you've driven to the edge of the Earth, about as far from so-called 'Civilization' as you can go and still find indoor plumbing. You're in Texas' Big Bend, (Terlingua, TX to be precise!) and though you're hundreds of miles from the nearest mall or chain of restaurants, you're minutes from nearly a dozen excellent dining establishments, bars, and music venues. Check out La Kiva Restaurant & Bar, at Hwy 170 and Terlingua Creek.
La Kiva Restaurant & Bar features MEAT. LOTS of it. Steak, Bar B-Q Brisket and Chicken, Catfish, and more. A thick Filet Mignon was about $11.00, and a heaping plate of Brisket was about $7.50, and included veggies and Coleslaw. EXCELLENT Bar, rated one of the top Bars in the country by some magazine or another, and deservedly so. Friendly staff, great food, and the interior decoration looks like a colaboration between the Marquis de Sade and Walt Disney...VERY entertaining.
Every Wednesday night is 'Open Mic Night'. Don't miss it if you can help it. Terlingua is home to an unusually large population of VERY talented singer/songwriter/musicians, and Open Mic Night at La Kiva is a local favorite. [13 Jun 2003 14:54:27]

Menus I have one of the menus from when you had the romantic hot tub evening. This is the best place in Terlingua. [18 Jul 2005 01:26:47]

Good fun - Excellent Value The food was good and an excellent value. (I'm typically suspicious of steaks that cost less than $25 - but this one was really good!) I didn't hold out much hope for the wine but then the wine list was "red, white, pink". However, they ran out of wine so I switched to Bloody Marys until they ran out of Bloody Mary mix and then we went to Margaritas, which they didn't run out of but they weren't actually brilliant Margaritas. But it was fun, the locals are colorful and oddly enough we met some Brits to party with that evening.
Apparently the men's room smells really, really bad. They were burning incense in the ladies room, which had a lovely smell until the incense burned out and then it smelled really, really, really bad. But if you hold your breath when you go in and hurry, you'll be alright. [16 Aug 2006 12:09:24]

Primitive, yet fun. I live about 13 hours away, on the other side of Texas, and I've been coming here for years. The entertainment is the highlight, but the food is good and it's a great place for some drinks inside and outside.
I guess there's no real rules other than having a good time and being friendly. I would definitely recommend this place for any young adult that likes to see new places and so new things. [25 Feb 2007 16:33:33]
