Chinese food that's not watered down
We lived in the area years ago, and this was a favorite place. We stop by once in a blue moon. We don't frequent the place simply because we're not in Holladay often anymore.

The food has always been great for take-out Chinese. Full flavors; not the watered-down "let's take it easy on these wimpy American" dishes. My wife and I like full-bodied food, and realize that some friends like mild food (and thus didn't really care for the place). Be warned that while this food is not spicy hot, if you think mu gu gai pan is rich, you may not like this place. Each to his own.

The portions are hearty. Normally my wife and I will split a main dish and order extra rice. This leaves us full but not stuffed. Food is presented in the stereotypical small cardboard containers one expects from Chinese take-out.

The service is of fast-food style. The kids usually working the register are courteous, friendly and helpful. It appears that the cooks in the back are older relatives. They're prompt and hard-working. When I've met them working the front, they've also been pleasant and friendly.

The physical location has always been kind of run down. It's not quite a hole in the wall, but not much attention is applied to beyond keeping things neat and clean. Had we not initially ordered over the phone for delivery, the looks would have turned us off.

Overall, I say it's definitely worth giving a go. If you like it, you'll keep coming back.    [17 Dec 2006 04:45:45]
