Get Your Chicks, and a view...on Route 32.
A local landmark. With no apologies to the Colonel...here's the best fried chicken in the state. Friendly, family atmosphere make this place a throw back to the 50's. Good food at a reasonable price. A bit off the beaten path...but worth the effort.    [28 Nov 2001 15:14:13]

Service
On 8/10/02 about 7:00 P.M. my wife and I went and ordered dinner. About 15 minutes after we ordered two men came in and ordered the same thing that my wife ordered. The man asked their waitress to tell the cook to hurry. The two men got their dinners and we were still waiting.

We asked our waiter if there was something wrong that the two men got their dinners before us. He told us that the ground steak was frozen and it took a long time. But the two men had the same thing ordered 15 minutes later than us and got their dinner 15 min. before us.

My wife did not get what she ordered when she did get it. The waiter was a young man about 20 years old, dark hair, and was very rude.    [11 Aug 2002 19:21:52]

Food
On July 24, 2004 my wife and I had the whole fried chicken dinner. It came with a salad and fries. The chicken was greasy, the fries were greasy and half cooked and the salad was just lettuce. We paid around 15 bucks for half the meal we could have had at Kentucky Fried Chicken for around the same money.

My advice is save your money rather than eat here.    [25 Jul 2004 14:49:16]

Overall
I have been eating at the Spring Chicken all of my 65 years. I cut my teeth on a chicken leg I think!

We were last there in July of 2004 and found the chicken wonderful--second only to the Chicken Factory in Hawthorne, FL.

True the place is not handicapped accessible and is not "stylish" and if you are in a hurry check out McDonald's in Coalville.

But for me it is not about anything except HOT and fresh home cooked chicken dinner and I am never in any big hurry to leave the little town of my birth so it can take as long as it takes!    [06 Dec 2004 17:28:02]

Who's You're Daddy?
Finest fried chicken this side of Memphis!

What can I say, except I hope it never goes away.

Please stay the secret diamond that you are. No finer service in the west.

If you're eating there, you're in my seat!

Enjoy...    [22 Jul 2005 00:24:35]

Spring Chicken Inn/Wanship, Utah
Lets make this as simple as it gets: I own a summer place near the Spring Chicken Inn. I always take friends to the Spring Chicken Inn. This last weekends visit the service, food, environment were crappy crappy crappy.

"THREE" parties arrived "AFTER" my party arrived were recognized, serviced and treated like kings and queens before some one in my group actually got up and said excuse me is any one alive in Wanship's Spring Chicken Inn.

Then when some one saw oh my gosh there actually is some one sitting in the middle of the restaurant being ignored the restaurants employee said OH I did not know any one was out here. I said DING DING DING excuse me.    [02 Oct 2006 02:58:24]

Nice to have the OLD friendly place back !
We have been eating at the Spring Chicken Inn for the last 38 years and have taken many of our friends from outside the state here to eat. The Chicken is the best in the NATION however the last 8 or 9 years the place has steadily gone down hill with FILTH and RUDE waitresses obviously all family. The owner could care less if you were there or not and didn't mix any bones about that fact.

BUT, with the new ownership we WELCOME back with open arms what we had been accustomed to. It is so refreshing to see new owners that CARE enough to clean up the establishment and bring in some new blood (waitresses) that have a SMILE and are happy to be alive. Not only is the place cleaned up but the food is 100% better and we don't get sick and have to stop at the rest stop before getting home.

THANK YOU to the new owners for bringing back life to a place that is well known throughout the WORLD and not allowing it to die with people that DON'T CARE.

We will be back a lot now.    [06 Dec 2006 10:11:44]

My Favorite Place To Eat When I Go Home
Every time I go home to Kamas, I always make time to eat there. Even if I get it to go the wait is always worth it. I live two hours away, and do have a KFC in my town and I'd rather go to the Spring Chicken Inn then waste my time with KFC.    [23 Mar 2007 13:16:49]

SCI Now Ruined Due To New Qwnership.
Back when Don Woolstenhulme owned the place; he made sure that the customer came first. Not to mention the man knew how cook.

Shortly after the Chicken Inn changed hands, I dared to go inside. Not only were the new waitresses rude, the food is abysmal.

Let's just say I never made the mistake of going again.    [11 Apr 2007 21:44:34]

What CUSTOMER Came First ?
I think the people that don't have the GUT'S to sign what they write should go back to bed. Everything that they write and say is obviously LIES or they could have the audacity to sign their name..........

Enuff of that, lets just say that we have frequented this great establishment since Sherdon & Gwen were the owners so back when service was a pleasure and food was a talent. The previous owner did not care about neither. It was rather obvious over the years they didn't care if we or anyone else were there, hours of operation were never an item of concern as the place was closed many times earlier than the posted hours of operation. It appears that several of the same waitresses are still there and they are the ones that always have the FROWNS on their faces and still don't care about friendly service. We always try to avoid those waitresses but for some reason we get stuck with the heavier set gal that is rude and mean, (Shoulder length dark brown hair) she needs some lessons in turning that frown upside down.

Restaurant business is a hard business for anyone as you are always on the wrong end of the stick dealing with starving people that think they deserve to get their food before anyone else.

The new owner has made an honest effort to bring comfort and friendliness back to the place. The food is much more pleasing to the stomach and just observing that the building has been cleaned is worth much more that knowledge of cooking. If you don't have customers to cook for you don't need to cook. Mr Don had his place but it wasn't dealing with the public much less interacting with someone that has a question about the food preparation or something that may have been wrong or a simple suggestion on how to improve, he simply told you where to go and how to get there on no uncertain terms and didn't care who was around when he used the big "F" bomb when young ears were present,....

We disagree with the anonymous people that can't sign their name(s) my husband and I have always assumed that the anonymous writers are none other than close family or friends of the accused anyway.

Good luck to the new owners you are doing a bang up job so far with that was placed on your PLATE, keep going in the same direction and you will for sure be rewarded someday.    [25 Jul 2007 18:24:08]
