Great place to hang out and relax
I was one of their first customers, accidently showing up for lunch on opening day. The food was much better then, but they obviously had no restaurant experience at the time and had to retool their menu to avoid spoilage. Now it consists of simple sandwiches and desserts.

The wait staff is very laid back and chatty, but most people (starving grad students) go there to hang out and have a coffee or two over the course of many hours because it has a good ambiance. It also has free wireless connectivity, so you will see a half dozen laptops open and surfing the web at most times    [18 Sep 2004 00:24:43]

One of the best in the DC area
One of the best community cafes in the DC area. It's built up a reputation over the years and the change of ownership did not affect its function--perfect hang out to study, organize a reunion, enjoy a sip... Very good cakes. Love the apple pie.
