Golden Lion restaurant in Etobicoke I had my experience and I want to share it with people.
I went to Golden Lion, because I was searching for nice place to have a small (40ppl) wedding. As soon as I walk in I said – this is the place. The man who was working there showed us the whole restaurant and also nice VIP room (not too big and not too small). It was perfect. We booked the room and left a deposit. Next week we came back to have a dinner there just to taste they food and listen to the music – I was happy and satisfied. One month later a lady called from the restaurant and told me and my fiancée that there had been a mistake. She said that unfortunately someone else booked that room before us and they have to move us into the big room where other people will be sitting. I was more than surprised (we already sent invitations). We said that we paid deposit and we want to have the room, so she said that manager of the restaurant will call us back. Manager called and said that there is nothing he could do, but our room is gone to someone else. He also said that even if we paid a deposit, it doesn’t guarantee us that our wedding will be in that room. It guarantees only that our wedding will be in Golden Lion restaurant, on the date we booked – that’s it. He also asked for a 50% deposit 2 weeks ahead. After we agreed to move to the big room and pay the deposit he sends an e-mail asking for 70% deposit and the rest of the amount PRIOR TO EVENT. So, basically he wanted us to pay for everything (for the service) before getting anything. It was 2 weeks left for our wedding and we agreed to pay, but the only thing my fiancée asked is to break down menu and make it official (put his signature). He said that he CANNOT do it. The reason he said is because if he break it, then it will be cheaper, because they were giving us the “tremendous discount” ($105 per person including alcohol). We couldn’t pay him, because we stopped trusting that person from the day he took away the room we booked. We just changed the restaurant.
I just want to advise you not to choose that restaurant if you're planning a big day. The manager's name is Patrick. [29 May 2003 13:18:25]
