Nice porch view, mediocre everything else We found the Smithfield Station online and decided upon it for my brother's graduation from William and Mary. Reservations were made, and we were pleased to receive a table on the glassed-in porch, the only nice seat in the place, from what I could gather. We were somewhat taken back by the prices - the person answering the phones had said $8.50 to $25, and it was more like $20 to $25 for an actual entree'. The server acted more like a waitress from your local country cookin' buffet kind of place, not making up for the amount we were spending for the large group. Valentine Treat Over the Valentine weekend we decided to stay at the Four Square Plantation Bed and Breakfast in Smithfield. The owner suggested we try the Smithfield Station. Long story short, we called and they were able to "squeeze" us in at 7:00 PM on Saturday Night. When we arrived on time we were seated almost immediately and the service continued on that perfect path. Our server was outstanding, very knowledgeable and helpful and continued to check on us frequently even though they were very busy. With her help we both decided to take advantage of the Valentine Special dinner and had the New York Strip topped with Crabmeat. After placing our order the food was served promptly and with the steak was good while the baked potatos were cooked to perfection and our only objection would be that there was no choice of vegetable, only asparagus, my least favorite. The meal was topped off with a wonderful Chocolate Mousse. Although we did not have a waterside view the restaurant theme carried throughout and besides, the best view was sitting across the table from me, my beautiful wife of 35 years [15 Feb 2004 21:49:54]
