Excellent! Best food/service in a Mexican restaurant this side of the U.S./Mexico border ( or in Virginia Beach at least). The selection is extensive, authentic horchata, churros drizzled with honey and food that tastes like someones grandmother cooked it. Definitely doesn't taste like the pre-packaged stuff you find at other Mexican restaurants in the area. The Mexican tacos with tender chopped beef and fresh cilantro... yum! The service has always been friendly and efficient.


I've been going to this restaurant nearly exclusively and I live 6 miles closer and across the street from another one that does good business. Taqueria San Jose started out in the little strip of shops behind the Car Spa and have since expanded into the restaurant with parking lot just behind. They still maintain a small bar/restaurant in the old location and a grocery store where you can find many unusual Mexican grocery goods.


Personal favorites, including those previously listed, are carnitas, chimichangas and tamales. Prices are very reasonable with lunch and dinner combinations and a kids menu.

The atmosphere is tasteful without any pretention. Perfect for a date or a night out with the family.
