A True Gourmet Restaurant
This fine restaurant was a real treat for Vermont gourmet cuisine.    [10 Nov 2004 22:51:58]

Watch out for the Wife
Never in my life have I eaten in a restaurant were the owner's wife was so nasty and just downright mean. She was in our faces at every turn and made us feel 100% uncomfortable. I will never go back there because of her. Review, take your money and go someplace else. The food was great.    [08 Jul 2005 11:57:16]

The Duck Is Superb - The Wife Is a Disaster
The food is very good but the wife of the owner will kill this place - if she hasn't already.    [27 Dec 2005 15:34:26]

Excellent Food, Awful Hostess
The food, service, wine, environment were outstanding and can compete anywhere, but the woman who owns the place, along with her chef husband was rude, nasty and obnoxious. She was downright mean! I am sorry, but I will not go back.    [22 Jan 2006 11:07:48]

We Loved It
When my husband and I temporarily lived in Newfane, we visited this inn several times and always found the owners to be outstanding hosts. Miss Gundy, the co-owner, was very gracious and kind to us, every time. The mouthwatering food and exceptional ambiance were so wonderfully special to temporary visitors from Arkansas. We wanted to experience New England and this inn is one of our best memories. We will definitely go back.    [30 Jan 2006 17:18:29]

Scary Wife
Someone needs to tell the owner and chef that his wife is killing his business. She is something else, I had been eating there every night for over a week. I was in town on business and asked to use the phone in the lobby as I had left my cell in my room. The wife snapped and said there was a phone across the street. Here I am dropping hundreds eating there and she would not let me even use the phone for one local call. Food was good, but the wife is nasty. Pack her up in a bag and mail her back to the old country. I'm rating this a poor place to eat because of her.    [31 Jan 2006 05:23:41]

Best Food on the Planet
I have been dining at the Newfane Inn for over 30 years. I have never had a meal that was less than perfect. The food is better here than any place I have ever eaten, worldwide, hands down. Gundy and Eric are both wonderful, of course. I can't imagine the West River Valley without the Newfane Inn. I love to dine for the food, and of course, the wine. So they don't take credit cards. So Gundy isn't warm and fuzzy. The standards there are high. Try the scallops or the salmon. Perfect!    [24 Jul 2006 16:12:46]

A Perfect Meal Every Single Time
I have never, ever had a bad meal at this restaurant and I have been going there for 10 years. The chef does not skimp on butter and that's just the way I like it. Very French. The house salad dressing is one of the best kept secrets in the industry. Gundy, the hostess, has never been anything less than warm and generous to us. People just don't give her a chance. Do not miss an opportunity to dine here as the food is outstanding and it's offered at a very reasonable price. My wife and I had apps, dinner and a bottle of champagne for just $109. Well worth it!    [23 Aug 2007 09:38:04]

Three Decades of Fine Food and Abuse
My wife and I have dined at the Old Newfane since 1976. The food is utter perfection, fairly priced and in large portions. The wine list is ok, but not overpriced. The menu basically is unchanged with a few specials which are repeated very often. This is our favorite restaurant in the US, but...the owner's wife is unpleasant, nasty and obnoxious. She apparently must recalculate every bill that the servers add in full view of the customers.    [10 Oct 2007 09:10:24]
