Don't go there! Don't do it!
Well, where do I begin? I have heard, on the radio, how good this place is. Great atmosphere, prices, menu, etc. I hear great things about their shakes and burgers, but what drew me in was all the great things I heard about their chicken and dumplings. I love chkn. and dmps.! I was soooo mislead. The building is not a good restaurant building. My wife, daughter and I felt like we were in a doctors office lobby. The prices were ridiculously high. The selection was bad. They aren't sure if they want to be a burger joint, a family restaurant or a 5 star steak and seafood restaurant. To top it off, the servings were small and had terrible taste. My 5 year old daughter, who loves corndogs, took 1 bite of hers. My wife ordered a simple french dip and couldn't finish it. She said it was very dry, bland and had some sort of "bad seasoning" in it. I had a side salad with my dumplings. The lettuce was was a bit wilted and it was brown around the edges. The blue cheese dressing was just water, with little flavor. It just ran to the bottom of the plate. Finally, my chicken and dumplings was terrible. It was just a chicken broth soup with pees, corn, chunks of chicken, potato, carrots, and celery. The most dissapointing part was the dumplings. They weren't the light and fluffy, airy but moist on the inside while a bit gooey on the outside dumplings that they should have been. They were the leftover breakfast biscuits from the day before (no joke. They actually had the flat, browned bottom, from the baking pan). I had to pin them to the bottom of my bowl, with my spoon, to break through the bottom 1'4 inch of the biscuit. They were really tough, as though they had been microwaved (and too long at that). They were tough on the bottom, soggy and gritty on the top, breakfast biscuits. Oh, and I can't forget the 4 (yes I said 4) 1/2 inch chunks of honey dew mellon, that they placed on a bed of that same brown lettuce, next to my bowl of chicken and biscuits. It had the same crunch and taste as a cucumber. I don't know? Maybe it was.    [13 Jan 2008 20:37:16]

Best food in town
My family has been going to Boondockers for many years and we have never been disappointed. They serve great breakfast, lunch and dinner. All homemade food. You get fresh squeezed orange juice free with most breakfasts. Good quality food at reasonable prices in a friendly atmosphere!    [14 Apr 2008 14:36:56]

good stuff!
I'm a little upset that so many people prefer the old Boondockers in Lake Stevens to the new, upscale and elegant restaurant in Marysville. The old place was a small, one room fast food joint with burgers and shakes. The new place is much more striking!

The new place still has really amazing burgers and shakes, but they have expanded their menu to include a ton more too. Everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) they make is homemade, down to the salad dressings, breaded fish, soups, desserts, and sauces. That is really impressing, as most places use bottled or powdered sauces and dressings, and you hardly find any place that makes everything from scratch and has really good food. (I'm a retired chef so I can tell you this from experience).

The new place has a beautiful interior, impeccably clean with nice lighting. They have a large dining room, and then a smaller side room which the owner explained to me, can be reserved for banquets.

My wife and I went in the other night for dinner. They serve their burgers all day long, but I really would save the burgers for lunch as their dinner options are to die for.

I had the Top Sirloin, cooked Medium Rare with a baked potato and their Beef Barley soup. The soup was chock full of barley, steak pieces, and tons of spices. The steak was cooked perfectly and was tender and a good size. The baked potato came topped with butter, sour cream, and green onions. The steak and baked potato came on a nice oval platter with crisp tender vegetables in a light butter sauce. Very impressive.

My wife had their Garlic Prawn Fettuccini. It came on the same nice oval platter and was so delicious! The prawns complimented the alfredo garlic sauce brilliantly. The alfredo sauce, I'm told, is also homemade (what did I tell you!). All of this was topped with parmesan cheese. Also very impressive.

My wife had a hot tea and I had a glass of Columbia Crest Merlot. They also have beer, shakes, and lemonade (freshly squeezed, my waitress told me).

All in all, Boondockers is the place to go for a nice, upscale dinner, or a tasty lunch. I will be back for breakfast, I noticed on their menu that they have crepes (I haven't seen any of these in Marysville yet) as well as Eggs Benedict, various omelets and scrambles, and waffles. Mmm!

The owners are also very nice and going in for a meal with real people to socialize with is a change that I definitely appreciate. I recommend this place as one of the best in Marysville!    [19 Apr 2008 16:11:55]
