Elkins' Shoney's Disappoints
Shoney's in Elkins, West Virginia needs a few breakfast bar tips. Grits need a certain amount of time of thorough cooking, or else they're raw. The fact that they're stirred up with water and heated doesn't render them edible. Don't leave old pancakes on the bar. These are the ones that are hard around the edges and dry in the center. THe pancakes strongly resembled the dry, hard, cold, greasy french toast sticks that were also on the bar. The "french toast" that wasn't in stick form was stale, cold, underseasoned and inedible. Your scrambled eggs were dry, too. My family visited for breakfast at 8:00 a.m., so there should have been no excuse for food being in this condition at this hour of the morning.
You also need to know that people like grape jelly. The only jellies available were apple cinnamon and honey (not really a jelly!).
Next time I'm in Elkins for business or recreational purposes, I'll dine elsewhere.
