Profile

Having lived in Pinellas County (Florida) for over 49 years, I believe myself to be quite knowledgeable of area restaurants. My earliest recollections of the beaches centered around dining at various fine restaurants which have since disappeared. Many special occasions were celebrated in those places. Very old-timers will remember The Red Snapper (burned down circa 1959), the Lighthouse Restaurant, the original Kingfish on John's Pass, and the Bath Club. One of my greatest disappointments was the decline and fall of Ten Beach Drive. I miss the fine old places, but look forward to recreations of high quality experiences. Unfortunately, high quality and elegance are fading into oblivion. Remember those images of a waiter standing with a towel draped over the forearm? Once apon a time, sparkling glassware and "silver" were only to be placed via a server's towel; a fingerprint was NOT to be found! While new restaurants may come and go, the golden oldies continue to be the best.
